Homeschool PE in Florida
Florida's Home Education Program offers flexibility, but portfolio reviews mean documentation matters. Here's how to be prepared.

Florida Home Education Program
Florida requires a Notice of Intent filed with the county school superintendent within 30 days of starting homeschool. You must maintain a portfolio of records and materials, and provide an annual evaluation.
While PE is not formally mandated, it is considered a standard subject for well-rounded education. More importantly, your annual evaluation must demonstrate educational progress — and including PE strengthens your portfolio significantly.
Portfolio & Evaluation Requirements
- Maintain a portfolio of records, materials, and work samples
- Portfolio must be preserved for 2 years
- Annual evaluation by a Florida-certified teacher, or
- Standardized test score at or above 13th percentile, or
- Evaluation by a licensed psychologist, or other approved methods
- Log of educational activities (recommended but not mandated)
Bright Futures & College Prep
Florida's Bright Futures Scholarship requires a minimum GPA and specific coursework. While PE isn't required for the scholarship itself, documenting PE credit strengthens college applications and satisfies some university health/fitness requirements.
