Keep the PE record, whatever the sport
Swim team, dance school, a club season, or PE you teach yourself: the record is the part a homeschool family has to keep, and it is the part most families reconstruct from memory in May. Spatrian keeps it as it happens. The lessons are there if you want them; the record does not need them.
What the record holds
Explorer is the records plan. It is for any sport and any age, and it keeps the same record every other plan keeps.
- An hour log, dated as you go Each session is a dated entry with its minutes and what was done, and a photo of the work can be attached to it as evidence.
- Outside hours, confirmed by you A club practice or a class somebody else teaches goes on the record once a parent confirms it, and counts toward the year’s total unless your state does not allow outside instruction to count. Where it does not, the hours stay on the record and are shown apart from the total, with the reason.
- A weekly summary by email Once a week: each child’s minutes that week, the year’s hours beside your state’s figure, anything a child logged that is waiting for you to confirm, and your own dates coming up.
- Your state’s requirements, beside your dates What your state asks a homeschool family to keep, with the source each figure came from, and the filing dates you set for your own family.
- A portfolio at the end of the year One document for the year: the activity log in date order, how the hours break down, and your certification as the parent. See a sample →
Younger children: record only
A child under 13 can be kept on the record only. You log what they did and it counts on the record the same way. They get no sign-in of their own, no coach chat and no video here, because we do not collect anything from or about a child that young beyond what their parent types in.
What the record does not do
Spatrian keeps the record. You file it: a notice of intent, an affidavit or an IHIP is yours to write and send, and the portfolio says so. Whether the record is enough is decided by someone else — your state, your district, your umbrella school or your evaluator. We show what your state’s own sources say and where each figure came from; we do not tell you that you have met it.

A year of dated entries reads differently from a log written the night before it is due. The difference only exists if the entries were made at the time.
