Safeguarding

Who on Spatrian can reach your child, what they can see, what we check and what we do not, and what to do if something is wrong.

Last updated October 29, 2026

The short version

  • A parent decides every connection. No coach, trainer or other family can find your child’s account or connect to it on their own.
  • There is no private messaging. No adult can open a conversation with your child here, and your child cannot message an adult. What a coach sends goes to the family, where a parent sees it.
  • Nothing your child types is shown to another family.
  • We do not run background checks on the coaches and trainers who use Spatrian. We tell you what each says about themselves, and that we have not checked it.

If a child is in danger now

Call 911, or your local emergency number, first. Spatrian is not an emergency service and nobody watches it around the clock.

To report suspected child abuse in the United States, call or text the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline on 1-800-422-4453, or contact your local police or child protective services. Then tell us, below, so we can act on the account.

In Canada, contact your local police or child protection services. A young person can talk to Kids Help Phone at any hour on 1-800-668-6868, or by texting CONNECT to 686868. Then tell us, below.

Club and school coaches

  • Only a parent connects a coach. The coach hands out a code; a parent types it on My Team. A coach cannot search for families, so there is nothing to find. A parent can disconnect a coach at any time, and a player can have at most five.
  • What a connected coach sees is your child’s first name and age group, the figures the phone measured, their target counts, and the reason and note given when they cannot make a session. Never their hours, grades, your state or video. The emergency card reaches a coach only if a parent shares it with that coach.
  • A coach writes nothing into your child’s record. A target or a note a coach proposes waits until the family accepts it, and a parent can turn a coach’s proposals off.
  • Team notices go one way, to every connected family at once, and name no child. A parent can mute a coach’s notices.
  • A coach’s credentials (a safeguarding course, a background check, first aid, a licence) are shown to you before you connect, marked as declared by the coach and not checked by us.

Personal trainers

  • A trainer’s record of a player is the trainer’s own. The family needs no account, and sees only what the trainer sends by private link: a session report, a monthly report, a homework page or a pay page. Each shows the player as a first name and an initial, and the trainer can withdraw it at any time.
  • A trainer asks a parent or guardian to agree to the record, by email or in person, and the record says which. For a player under 13 the trainer must record that a parent or guardian agreed before sending homework or putting a video frame on a report, and only a parent or guardian may ask for a session on a trainer’s page.
  • Connecting your own account to a trainer works like a coach’s code, and the trainer sees less than a coach does.
  • Find a Trainer lists a trainer’s public page only after one of our administrators has read it. That is a read of the page, not a check of the person: we do not employ or vet the trainers who use Spatrian.

Co-ops

A co-op is run by one of its parents, the director. Other families see each enrolled child’s first name and age band, never their hours, scores or record. The allergy line, emergency contact and the adults who may collect a child are written by that child’s parent, for one co-op at a time, and only the director and co-director can read them. The Privacy Policy, Section 2.5, has the detail.

Other children

  • The Weekly Leaderboard is off until a parent turns it on for a child, and then the child appears under a made-up name.
  • Friends is off until a parent turns it on, and is offered only to a school or club player aged 13 or over. Friends are made with a code swapped in person, or from the same coach’s team, and both children’s parents have to have switched it on. There is no chat. What one child can send another is fixed by us: four reactions, and lines and stickers about a contest (“Bring it”, “GG”), a few a day, never about the person. A friend sees a first name, an emblem, this week’s points, their Player Card and tricks, and the challenges, races and Friends Cup ties they share. A race can include a friend’s friend, so every player shown carries Report and Block. A child can say no to a request, and can block another child.
  • Nothing is ranked against other children anywhere else on Spatrian.

Notes from adults, by a link

Three adults outside the app can write to a player through a link the family makes and sends: a referee’s mentor, the people at a game the player refereed, and the head coach a player of 16 or over helps coach beside. None of them needs an account or sees the player’s name on the page, and all any of them can leave is a short note (with a few fixed compliments on a referee’s), refused on a rude word.

  • A grown-up reads every note first. It waits, your bell says how many with no detail, and you let each through or keep it out. From 16, if you switch it on, your player decides their own.
  • Who wrote it is not checked. A note says only who the writer said they were, a mentor or a parent at the game, say, and is labelled as left by link. Nothing else about them is kept.

Coach Spatrian, the AI coach

  • You can read every conversation your child has with Coach Spatrian, on Coach Conversations. From 16 the chat is the player’s own: you see how many messages and when, not the words, unless you switch that back. Sessions it proposes still wait for you either way.
  • You can switch your child’s chat off, or switch off the topics you would rather the coach did not discuss with them.
  • Nothing goes to the AI service until a parent allows it, once for the household. A child cannot allow it, and nothing about a child under 13 is ever sent.
  • The coach proposes; a parent decides. Hours it suggests are logged only when a parent presses the button.

Pictures, video and sharing

  • Under 13, a child has no sign-in of their own, we accept no video of them, and their clips are never shared.
  • A teen’s share buttons are off until a parent turns them on. Sharing goes through the phone’s own share sheet.
  • A player profile link is made by a parent for one named coach or tryout, lasts at most 90 days, and can be stopped at any time. It shows a first name and last initial, never hours, grades or your state.

If something is wrong

  • Use the Report button beside anything another family, child or coach put in front of you. The person reported is never told who reported them.
  • What happens next is in our Terms of Service, Section 10: we act on every report within 24 hours, remove content that breaks the rules and close the account of the person who posted it.
  • For anything else that worries you about an adult or a child on Spatrian, write to us and choose “A concern about a child’s safety”.

Safety in training

Warm-ups, weekly load limits by age, coming back from an injury, head injuries and heading are on Safety at Home. What we hold about your child, and who sees it, is in the Privacy Policy. What a parent controls is gathered on For Parents.

Raise a concern

Write from the contact page and choose “A concern about a child’s safety”. A person reads every message.
