Carnegie Unit & Credit Hour Standards

A high school credit is traditionally defined as 120–180 hours of total instructional work over a 36-week academic year. For PE, most states accept a half-credit (0.5 Unit) = 60–90 hours.

Full Credit120–180 hours/year
Half Credit (PE)60–90 hours/year
Min PE Allocation54 hours/year (0.5 credit)

Spatrian tracks active training minutes and compiles them into downloadable hour logs indicating date, duration, and specific instructional focuses.

Portfolio Documentation Requirements

In portfolio-review states (PA, FL, MD, etc.), parents must demonstrate "regular, thorough instruction" through physical evidence. A sports program must output:

  • Chronological Activity Logs — specific dates, times, and instructional durations
  • Skill Progression Evidence — tactical reviews, spatial analysis, nutrition/health quizzes
  • Performance Reports — analytics, metrics, and evaluations as "work samples"
  • Carnegie Unit Calculations — hours mapped to credit requirements

All generated automatically by Spatrian's Portfolio Export Engine.

Umbrella & Cover School Support

Many states allow homeschool families to operate under an "umbrella" or "cover school," which supervises records and issues transcripts.

Florida

Registered private umbrella schools under § 1002.42. Most require 1.0 PE credit for graduation. Season completion certificates accepted.

Tennessee

Church-related schools (Category IV) supervise parent-teachers. Typically require 1.0 PE credit (142–150 hours) + 0.5 Health/Wellness.

Maryland

Option B nonpublic entities under COMAR 13A.10.01.05. Require 0.5 PE credits + 0.5 Health. Bi-annual portfolio reviews.

Alabama

Private/church school enrollment. Must include a "program of physical education" — structured syllabus required for compliance reviews.
